Police in Kisoro is holding two suspects in connection to having a firearm, two grenades and 64 rounds ammunitions illegally.
The two suspects have been identified as Sadiki Gashendure 29, a Congolese resident of Karambo Village, Bunagana in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Silvani Uwirangiye 32, a resident of Gatete Village, Rwaramba Parish, Nyakinama Sub County, Kisoro District.
The Uganda Police Force and Uganda Peoples Defense Forces (UPDF) yesterday managed to intercept, one Sadiki at Stanbic Bank, along Kabale- Kisoro-Bunagana Road at 8pm.
It is believed that the Congolese National entered Kisoro, with an SMG rifle, ammunitions and grenades via Bunyangaro- Nyabwishenya- Kisoro border.
Upon his arrest, Police through their interrogation techniques, managed to establish that Sadiki Gashendure had an ally in Gatete Village by the names of Silvani Uwirangiye who was also intercepted and arrested.
ASP Maate Elly, Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson confirmed the development.
Investigations further revealed that the duo had managed to bury the firearm, bullets and two grenades in a banana plantation, near the house they were living in.
Unconfirmed information indicates that a military Uniform was also discovered in the house however Police is still trying to establish which military outfit uses such a uniform.
The development comes at a time when residents of Nyabwishenya have been complaining about limited security presence along the border with Democratic Republic of Congo where people have lost livestock to Congolese who steal them and sell them in Markets found in DRC.
Kisoro Resident District Commissioner Hajji Shafiq Sekandi said he is aware of the incident and is waiting for a more detailed report from security.
