Former Inspector General of Police and Retired four Star General in the Uganda Peoples Defense Forces, Edward Kalekezi Kayihura has said he was never pardoned for any crimes brought against him but instead was declared innocent of any wrongdoing.
Kayihura, commonly referred to as K.K used the chance to speak out during a homecoming celebration that was organized by a section of Bafumbira.
The event that took place today at the Saaza Playgrounds in Kisoro Municipality attracted thousands of loyal supporters, many of whom have a lot to be thankful to Kale Kayihura.
Rtd. General Kayihura ensured that competent Bafumbira benefitted from Police recruitment while he served as Uganda’s IGP.
Clad in Kaunda Suit, Kayihura took to the podium and thanked the people of Kisoro for turning up in large numbers to show their love and support that helped his family weather the storm, especially during the difficult times when he was facing serious military charges.
The charges included failure to protect war materials, failure to supervise police officers, and abetting kidnap.
All charges against Kayihura were withdrawn earlier this year while appearing before a seven-member panel led by Brigadier General Freeman Robert Mugabe.
Kayihura commended and appreciated the Head of State, H.E Yoweri Museveni who never once gave in to the rumors against him but patiently and tactfully gathered enough evidence to deduce that he was innocent of any wrongdoing.
He commended Lt. Gen Andrew Gutti as the army court chairman, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba and entire the UPDF as institution for remaining loyal and committed to establishing the truth.
The thanksgiving celebration was led by Bishop of Muhabura Diocese Rt. Rev. Godfrey Mbitse who called for deeper reflection among Christians on the power of forgiveness and the ability to do good deeds that can help make the world a better place.
He commended Rtd. General Kayihura for ensuring that he used his position of influence to pay it forward for younger generations who now have the onus of doing the same for those following in their footsteps.
Kisoro District LCV Chairperson and longtime supporter of K.K, Abel Bizimana said his long-time prayers have been answered.
He noted that seeing General Kayihura freed from malicious accusations is a sign that true justice is still possible in this country.
