Bukimbiri United Boda Boda Operators (BUBO) has rewarded 400 of its fully registered members with Startup capital of 11 million Ugandan shillings to establish saving cooperatives at 16 newly created stages.
Gad Orishaba, the Association’s treasurer made the revelation during a board meeting including committee members and stage masters at Karungi Campsite in Rubuguri Town Council, Kisoro district.
Orishaba says the young association has managed to generate revenue of over 30 million Ugandan shillings from its members through membership of 400,000 Ugandan shillings, in only three months of operation.
Orishaba says at least 100,000 Ugandan shillings is maintained on the Association account while the rest of the funds is directed towards supporting the boda boda riders in Bukimbiri.
BUBO recently broke away from Kisoro United Boda Boda Association following what they described as, ‘unresolvable issues’ that stem from lack of financial transparency from the KUBO leadership.
KUBO is currently headed by Robert Kalangala who was recently re-elected as chairperson of the Association for a second term.
BUBO Chairperson Mugabe Robert called on the stage masters to execute their duties with discipline and urged them to sensitize other riders at various stages to desist from alcoholism and unnecessary fights, especially with members belonging to KUBO.
Mugabe said members have been given T. shirts branded with the words, ‘Bukimbiri Boda Boda Association‘ for easy identification as well as chains to lock motorcycles of errant riders as well as impostors who illegally park at their stages.
Mugabe says the inception of the association started with a lot of opposition from KUBO members however the Association is preparing to launch officially which should raise the confidence of road users from Bukimbiri.
He further noted that riders from Kisoro Municipality, especially those bringing food to campsites and hotels should not feel threatened because BUBO seeks to have a good working relation with the sister Organization.
