A 29 year old man from Kasemisego village, Southern division in Kisoro municipality suspected to be part of a gang that has been terrorizing boda boda riders in Kisoro district by hitting them with hammers on the head and stealing their motorcycles is dead.
Ngabire Gerald, a mason and resident of Kasemisego village met his death yesterday after attempting to flee from the Police following his arrest by the Boda Boda community.
It is believed that Kisoro United Boda Boda Association (KUBO) leaders got a lead that Ngabire Gerald was responsible for dropping threatening letters at homes of people who own motorcycles.
These letters claim they were next on the target list so they either give up the motorcycle or die.
One Nsenga Isaac, a motorcycle owner who fell victim on October 23rd 2021 says the letter explained how his motorcycle was going to be dismantled near the Pentecostal church behind Mubano hotel.
A woman identified as Doreen told the thugs that the money they are demanding for was too much but instead threatened to shoot them which prompted them to run away. It is still unclear, if Doreen owns a registered fire arm.
She has since been detained at Kisoro Police to aid in investigations.
KUBO chairperson Kalangala Robert Nteziyaremye, said some of his committee members incuding himself rushed to the home of the suspected thief Ngabire Gerald where he was arrested.
Kalangala claims through thorough interrogation, the renowned thief revealed the entire operation. They later handed him to Police where he tried to flee leading to his brutal death
Police has since condemned the act of mob justice. They called on the public to reveal more information about the boda boda racket that has led to loss of lives and property for many years.
