Western Uganda Region has been ranked the third in the National Mathematics Quiz, after the pupil of Bishop Asili memorial Nursery and primary school, Claire Michelle Kihembo scored the third position in the contests.
The 13-year-old Claire Michelle Kihembo, a primary seven candidate and was among the 648 pupils from all schools across the country who reached the final phase of the National Mathematics Contest organized at Makerere University on Saturday 22nd July 2023, by the Uganda Mathematical Society, with support from the Institute of Certified Public Accountants – CPA.
The Publicity Secretary of Uganda Mathematics Society, James Maganda, told our reporter that the pupils who reached the national level represented their respective regions where Central region became the first, Eastern the second and Western which was represented by Kihembo of Bishop Asili became the third while Northern became the fourth and Karamoja the fifth.
He said that the reason for organizing such contests is to identify the future scientists at an early age, to remind Math teachers on new methods of teachings, as well as to identify future mathematicians.
Addressing the press conference in her office, the Head Teacher Bishop Memorial P.S Rev. Sr. Margret Tusiime said that Kihembo’s performance to represent western region was not a surprise to them because she has been an excellent performer from Primary five.
Kihembo attributed her performance to support from her parents, Pius Nahabwe Karanzi and Christine Nahabwe, teachers and God. She expressed for the milestone adding that her dream is to become a surgeon in future.
