Diocese of Muhabura supports Transit camp with food relief

Bishop Cranmer called on the East African Community (EAC) leaders to find a peaceful approach to solving the differences that have arisen leaving many innocent people displaced and many others dead.

A delegation from the Diocese of Muhabura led by the Bishop Rt. Rev. Cranmer Mugisha has today offered 3000Kgs of Maize flour to Congolese Asylum seekers at Nyakabande transit camp in Kisoro district.

Bishop Cranmer, who in recent days has intentionally been out of the public eye, said the asylum seekers at Nyakabande are all children of God who have befallen difficult times due to Political instability in their home country.

While preaching to mostly women and children, Bishop Cranmer taught from the bible book of Jeremiah where he said God hears the weeping and supplications of all his children.

Bishop Cranmer called on the East African Community (EAC) leaders to find a peaceful approach to solving the differences that have arisen leaving many innocent people displaced and many others dead.

UNHCR Deputy Head Philippe Kuessan commended the Church for their timely support.

Kuessan said of food relief items are always are welcome to help support the biggest population made up of women and children.

Security sources say the total population at the transit camp is 10,137.

At least 407 refugees were yesterday relocated from Nyakabande transit camp.

207 individuals were taken to Kyaka Resettlement camp, 121 to Nakivale Settlement camp and another 79 to Rwamwanja settlement camp.
