The Kisoro District Returning Officer, Daniel Nayebare, says the commission has already received several essential non-sensitive materials at its offices in Kisoro Municipality. These include transparent ballot boxes, lighting equipment, basins, and other items required for the voting exercise.

Nayebare noted that ballot papers, which are classified as sensitive materials, are expected to arrive on January 8, assuring the public that the commission remains on schedule to conduct a free and fair election.

He further revealed that the upcoming elections will employ biometric voter verification technology. According to Nayebare, voters whose fingerprints are not recognized by the machines will instead be verified using facial recognition, ensuring that no eligible voter is denied the right to vote.

In addition, he explained that every ballot paper will be electronically scanned before and after voting to curb multiple voting and other electoral malpractices. Any ballot paper rejected by the verification system will automatically be treated as an invalid vote.

Speaking to the media at his office in Kisoro Municipality, Nayebare urged all political candidates to submit details of their polling agents in time. He warned that any agent who reports to the commission offices without an official appointment letter addressed to the Returning Officer will be denied access and services.

He strongly condemned the practice of candidates presenting their agents late, noting that such negligence could negatively affect their participation in the electoral process.

Nayebare also called upon candidates and their supporters to cooperate with electoral officials and observe electoral guidelines, emphasizing the need for peace and order to ensure a credible electoral process.
