The accused include the Gisozi Parish Chief in Muramba Sub County, Kakuze Pauline and Ndazigaruye Emmanuel, the Chairperson of Sooko PDM Sacco, who are accused of extorting between 100,000 – 150,000 Shillings from beneficiaries.

John Bosco Nteziyaremye, the Sooko Parish Chief was also arrested for supposedly taking bribes before adding beneficiaries to the list.

The three were ordered to record statements at Muramba Sub County police post as investigations take shape.

Muramba Sub County Health Inspector, Adronah Amwebonaire is to make a separate statement as she is accused of failure to perform her duties.

The office of the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) is conducting an assessment and review of PDM impact in Kisoro, with an aim of fighting corruption within the project.

According to Vallence Hagumimana, the Kisoro Assistant RDC, the exercise will cover all Sub Counties and Town councils. The team kicked off with Muramba SC and Bunagana Town Council this Thursday.

Before the arrest, the team distributed papers and asked members of the community to secretly write names of officials who forced them to offer bribes before they could benefit from the PDM project.
