Residents of Karambi village in Murora Sub County have been shocked at the death of a Rwandan man whose body was found in a field of sweet potatoes on Sunday 2nd July 2020
According to residents, the deceased is Baragahoranye Emmanuel, a Rwandan, who used to be a charcoal burner in Uganda.
Voice of Muhabura understands that Baragahoranye was earlier this year deported back to Rwanda when the Covid-19 pandemic broke out. The deportation was reportedly overseen by the area LC1 Chairperson and the Gomborola Internal Security Officer (GISO).
Residents say they don’t know when he returned to Uganda after completing the 2 weeks quarantine period in Rwanda, but one of them says he last saw him a few days ago in the village.
A girl who had gone to harvest sweet potatoes on Sunday evening around 6pm is said to have discovered the dead body in the garden, and alerted other residents.
However, the LC1 Chairperson, John Barihafi says that he was at around 2pm told that the deceased was ill, and received news of his death later.
Contrary to comments from the public, Mr Barihafi adds that Baragahoranye has been in his village for the past three weeks, employed by one of the residents identified as Mutabazi.
Asked why he harboured a foreigner in his village against the Covid-19 guidelines, Mr Barihafi said that he informed authorities in vain.
The death of Baragahoranye follows the death of 12 year old Duhimbaze Godfrey, whose body was Sunday morning found in a garden of sweet potatoes in Nshora village, Nyarusiza Sub County.
The deceased’s father, Muperu Venance says that his son left home on Saturday at around 7:30 am, but did not return, until his body, that was full of injuries was on Sunday found in the field of sweet potatoes, with a heap of potatoes on the shirt.
Kigezi police spokesperson Elly Maate told Voice of Muhabura that three suspects have been arrested, including Nkurunziza Robert of 50 years, his wife Kampire Molly aged 39 and Nyirarukundo Pamela of 22 years, all from the same family whose garden the body was found.
