Residents of Ruhadazonvu village, Maziba Ward in Bunagana town council, Kisoro district have been tipped for constructing a standard Ruhadazonvu-Gihuranda bridge, without waiting on Government for an intervention.
The bridge, which is a major access point for locals in the area carrying food and other produce to the market is often affected by flooding from Ntebeko River during the rainy season.
Ruhadazonvu Village chairperson Kwizera Abel says it had been a long time since he last saw people coming together to work for the good of the entire village.
According to Kwizera, Ruhadazonvu residents have always faced transport challenges for people crossing as well as farm produce heading to the market due to poor state of roads and the two bridges in the area.
The communal activity was inspired by a visit from Voice of Muhabura radio staff to one of its senior Staff and Chief editor Julius Irankunda who lives in the area.
The team led by managing director Prince Trevor Mugenga decided to start a fundraising drive to ensure that the Ruhadazonvu-Gihuranda Bridge, which was in a bad state was fixed before the August rains.
Irankunda Julius, who took the lead in mobilization and monitoring of rehabilitation works says close to 1.2 million shillings was raised and used to buy necessary materials to fix the bridge.
Irankunda thanked the management of radio that introduced home visits for staff ensuring that their coming would lead to such a significant contribution to Ruhadazonvu village.
