A Uganda People’s defense forces (UPDF) soldier attached to Kibaya army detach in Kisoro district has killed one civilan and injured a few soldier during a bar brawl in Nyarubande village, Rukundo town council.
UPDF staff No. RA 191534 Private Warimbwa Hamis shot and killed Nizeyimana Zephaniah aged 18 and resident of Kirwa village, Karambi parish, Nyarubuye Sub county.
One Private Achia Wiliam was also shot in the foot while trying to restrain Warimba from shooting other people.
The owner of the Friends Pub and Lodge Robert Mateke says the incident occurred yesterday night around 11pm.
According to Robert, he had to rescue two his female bar attendants after Warimba killed the civilan.
“The soldiers got into a serious argument about money and the final outcome was an innocent civilan getting killed. We don’t know what possessed them to shoot at us”, Mateke explained
The soldiers were on their routine patrol along the borderline with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
Security sources have confirmed that the suspect has been arrested and is now in army detention while his injured colleague was admitted to St. Francis Hospital, Mutolere.
The body of the civilan was taken to Kisoro hospital for postmortem.
The Mayor of Rukundo Town Council lever Ndagijimana condemned the killing and advised people to always avoid gathering with soldiers in bars because many of them are drunkards and are very unpreditable after drinking alcohol.
