Uganda Investment Authority (UIA) Director General, Mr Mukiza Robert on Thursday donated 10 computers and free Wi-Fi to Seseme girls’ secondary school in Kisoro municipality.
The DG says he made the donation to help modernise learners’ studies and simplify access to information while doing their research and other academic programs.
According to Mr. Mukiza, he mobilized the funds from his friends within and outside Uganda purposely to help Seseme girl’s school that lost eight computers to robbers recently.
The donation was received by the Head mistress Peace Ruzaza, Kisoro district Vice Chairperson Alex Ndayambaje, Kisoro Municipality Principal Education Officer Sabiiti Mugyema Emmanuel and the Vicar St Andrews Cathedral Sememe, Rev Jonas Niyonzima.
While speaking to the learners, Mr Mukiza encouraged them to love education and focus on future goals.
“We have to work closely with the young people because you are the ones who are going to take over this country. The statistics are clear. You’re the ones who will take our positions and drive our country to world class status.” He said.
The DG also counselled students to start projects while on holidays and focus much on value addition that can make products for world market.
“Do not only look at Uganda as a market. Join the value addition because we are producing coffee and other law materials. You can make your own jobs by joining that journey and target the markets of Uganda and beyond. Love Uganda and become Pan-Africanists as we industrialise our country.”
Mr Mukiza pledged to pay full tuition for students who will perform well at UACE but miss government sponsorship.
The headteacher Seseme girl’s secondary school, Ms Peace Ruzaza commended Mr Mukiza for the donation, saying the support would replace the lost devices.
“We are extremely grateful to Mr Mukiza. We recently lost 8 computers to robbers and we prayed that God would help us. You can now see he has donated 10 computers to us. This is very joyful and we thank him so much.”
According to Ms Ruzaza, the IT department at the school is facilitating both leaners and the administration in personalized learning, quick information access, collaboration and enhanced creativity.
