UGX 1.2 Million Compensation paid to Mutwa after Son is knocked dead.
A total of 1.2 million shillings has been paid out in a compensation claim following the death of one Julius Semucyo, a Mutwa, who was knocked dead in the month of July, 2021.
The money that was handed over to James Kiduma, a resident of Mikingo village in Kisoro Municipality was paid out by one Habimana Erasmus a resident of Kasherengenyi village from Kanaba Sub County, Kisoro district from the offices of United Organization for Batwa Development in Uganda (UOBDU).
According to a reconciliation letter seen by Vomuhabura.com, Habimana knocked dead Semucyo Julius in Kisoro hill village and attempted to flee from the scene.
Kisoro police and UOBDU collaborated well to trace for the vehicle because it had escaped the scene of the crime.
UOBDU Coordinator Henry Neza says that the reconciliation fee offered to Kiduma James by Habimana Erasmus speaks volumes to other people who still impose injustices to the Batwa tribe. He said that UOBDU will always speak for the Batwa.
Neza also commended police for defending the rights of the Batwa. He added that the Batwa have now been educated by UOBDU to defend themselves
The UOBDU education officer Nyamihanda Alice appreciated the efforts from UOBDU and police to find justice for a fellow Mutwa.
She called upon other community members to also take reconciliation as a stepping stone for development.
