Two Minors Perish in Kanaba Landslide

The Batwa Community in Kamugoyi Village, Muhindura, Kanaba Sub County, Kisoro District are mourning the loss of two children, aged 10 and 4 who died last night during a landslide that was caused by heavy rains.

The tragic incident occurred at around 10pm when the children along with their mother Jolly Ndabe and grandmother Joylensi were in their house when the land above their home caved in, killing the two children instantly.

The information was confirmed by Bagwe Benon, the chairperson of the Batwa community in Kamugoyi Village.

Eyewitnesses say, their grandmother Joylensi had to be restrained after she lost her senses due to the unbearable grief and attempted to kill herself.

Her daughter and mother to the children was also rushed to Kisoro Hospital after sustaining serious injuries to her limbs.

Uganda Red Cross Coordinator in Kisoro Bernard Manishimwe said their volunteer from Kanaba is still gathering more information about the incident that occurred last night.

Earlier this year, mudslides in Murora, Chahafi and Kanaba claimed lives of eight people Including Batwa.
