KISORO: The district Covid-19 Task Force has revealed that they resolved a motion to withdraw all travel permits after learning that some people are misusing them.

This was reached during the district task force meeting that was held in the district council yesterday.

Last month Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni re-imposed a strict lock down that included the suspension of public transport and inter-district travel among others to help beat back a surge in COVID-19 cases in Uganda.

However essential workers and other people who are transporting sick people could be given movement permits.

Addressing media after the task force meeting the Kisoro deputy resident district commissioner Ndikumwami Dan said that they resolved to have all movement permits after getting information that some people fake excuses to get the permits but later misuse them.

The Kisoro police traffic officer Assistant Superintendent of Police William Tumuheirwe told voice of Muhabura that the operation to withdraw all movement permits is starting today.

The vehicles given permits are for essential workers like security officers and medical officers among others.

On the issue of boda boda riders who are carrying passengers illegally, Ndikumwami Dan said that they are at risk of being arrested since they are not allowed to carry people.
