It has been tears for team Uganda and the female boxer Catherine Nanziri in particular after being ejected out of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in Japan on Sunday, 25th July 2021.
Nanziri, in the blue corner lost to Japan’s Namiki Tsukumi in the Fly Weight catergory after an unanimous decision at the Kokugikan Arena.
In all the three rounds, Tsukumi was powerful and unanimously got the nod of the five judges winning 30-27, 30-27, 30-26, 30-27 and 30-27.
Often, Tsukumi was courageous on offence as she defended gallantly with strong punches towards the debuting Ugandan.
Uganda has not won an Olympic medal since 1980 after John “The Beast” Mugabi’s heroics at the Moscow games.
The onus will now lie to the two remaining boxers David Ssemujju and captain Musa Shadir Bwogi.
Ssemujju, a middle weight boxer faces Moroccan Nemouchi on Monday, July 26 2021 in a round of 32 contest.
Bwogi will play on Tuesday in the round of 16 have got a bye at the round of 32.
