Street Vendors dealing in fruits and other roadside merchandise have said they are not prepared to operate within Kisoro Old Market because it is congested and in a poor state of management.
The Vendors were recently forced off the side of the Kabale- Kisoro – Bunagana Highway by Police and the Municipal authorities who said it is illegal to sell items along the road.
According to the Municipal authorities, the designated places include Old and New Market.
Kisoro Municipal Town Clerk Ayub Alikwan Kisubi said that the reason to get all the vendors off the streets in town is to beautify the town and make sure that it becomes a tourism city in the near future.
Some of the traders who spoke to www.vomuhabura.com said the old market is falling apart because of proper management.
They claim the toilets are all filled up and the sanitation of the market is lacking.
Traders operating in Old Market have in the past raised concerns about the cracked roof which leaks whenever it rains.
They are seeking intervention from the Municipal authorities to respond to their concerns.
