The Kisoro district senior Probation Officer, Okwaratuhe Alex has warned people against forging wills with intentions to inherit family property.
This is after his attention was drawn to issues where a family in Nyakabande Sub County, Kisoro district is fighting over a piece of land, after one of the family members allegedly forged a will.
Nyirahabinka Anastanzia, an 81 year-old widow, from Mugombero village Gasiza parish in Nyakabande Sub County is accusing his son, Silver Niringiyimana of forging a letter that states that after her death, he will inherit the family’s piece of land.
The old woman and her daughter in law, Kamahoro Judith, who is a wife to Silver, are now fighting over 8 million Shillings that was got after the old woman sold the land.
Speaking to voice of Muhabura, the probation officer said that when he engaged the two parties, Kamahoro produced the said will, which he identified as a forged document.
Okwaratuhe says that the said will states that all family land will be inherited by Niringiyimana Silver, yet he has brothers and sisters, which made him doubt it because a father cannot give all his land to his son when one of the parents is still living.
Okwaratuhe said it was very suspicious that the wife did not sign.
He also noted that the will is dated few days before his death in 1996 and yet the signature of its author is recent.
Our reporter’s effort to get a comment from Kamahoro was futile. There is information that her husband Niringiyimana is currently living in Mubende with a new family.
