The visit to Seseme girls was aimed at promoting a positive mindset towards growing coffee as well as conserving the environment.

The activities organized by Gorilla Highland Coffee are part of a weeklong celebration of World Gorilla Day that is celebrated on the 24th of September, every year.

Richard Rugaya, the founder of Gorilla Highland says, the time to invest in Coffee is now and who better to do it, if not the future generation of this country.

According to Rugaya, Kisoro’s Arabica Coffee is second to none, however the number of people growing it is still very low.

“We believe that if the younger generation learn to appreciate the true value of coffee and how profitable it can be, then they will be the ambassadors of Coffee to their families and friends”, Rugaya says

Rugaya says this was all made possible, thanks to the support of Noble Gorilla Reserve Foundation, a private foundation in the United States of America.

Sam Dusabe, a coffee extension worker says coffee growing is the future of commercial farming.

According to Dusabe, coffee can easily be intercropped with a number of crops allowing it to mature well. It can also be lined along the hedges of any garden and still do well.

Dusabe urged the students to develop passion for coffee growing alongside seeking academic knowledge at school because Coffee is guaranteed to make them money after their studies.

The Head Teacher of Seseme Girls Secondary School Mrs. Peace Ruzaza said that Coffee project at school is a practical way for the students to learn how to mitigate climate change effects as well as learn how to grow a cash minting crop while still in school.

Ruzaza pledged to support the club to ensure its activities are sustainable and its results can be seen for all.
