The Kisoro District Community Development Officer (DCDO) has challenged men to embrace the contribution of their wives in the development both at the household and national levels.
Mr Sam Niyonzima was Tuesday evening speaking during a radio talk show at Voice of Muhabura. He made the remarks as he mobilized masses for the belated International Women’s Day set to take place this Friday in Rubuguri Town Council.
He said that men who cooperate with their wives have had successful families.
The Chief guest is expected to be Rukia Nakadama, the Third Deputy Prime Minister.
According to Mr Niyonzima, men should revere their wives as partners in the family affairs, and should involve them in their plans and investments.
“If you own a piece of land, involve your wife in everything. Plan together about the seed, the labour and harvesting. You will enjoy the fruits of your cooperation.” He said.
Mr Niyonzima also emphasized the importance of educating the girl child for prosperous communities.
“We are happy that the number of females is increasing in Kisoro schools. This translates into resilient communities where gender equality is realized.”
“Men cannot prosper when their wives are poor. They should remember that families can only become stronger when they work together.” Niyonzima said.
The function at Rubuguri Playground is expected to kick off at 10am, with the arrival of the Chief Guest, who will be led by the Kisoro Woman MP, also the Defence Minister, Hon Sarah Nyirabashitsi Mateke.
The guests at the function are expected to get free transport and meals, according to Mr Niyonzima.
The International Women’s Day is a holiday celebrated annually on March 8 as a focal point in the women’s rights movement. It gives focus to issues such as gender equality, reproductive rights, and violence and abuse against women.
