The Regional Police Commander for Kigezi region Ibrahim Saiga has urged the forces operating within Kigezi region to increase their vigilance and work closely with the communities to avoid any incidences during the forthcoming festivities.
Saiga made the remarks, hours after meeting with all Officers in Charge (OCs) at Sub County level in Kisoro District.
He advised them to work closely with local leaders in establishing the identities of new people in the area and urged them to act on intelligence information as quickly as possible.
The comments come a few days after a 10-year-old minor, by the names of John Mary Iradukunda was recently retrieved from kidnappers who had been holding him in captivity for close to two weeks.
- 5 Million Shillings was paid as part payment for the ransom of 8 Million shillings.
One suspect, Jules Mbonigaba, a Congolese national is currently being detained at Kisoro Main Police Station to aid in investigations.
Saiga said increased patrols along the border with Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo have been beefed up despite the porous border.

The United States of America and the United Kingdom diplomatic missions have issued terror alerts warning citizens against travelling to Jinja City as well as Uganda Wildlife National Parks in western Uganda.
Kisoro Deputy RDC Robert Tukamuhebwa also called on Local Council Ones to register all foreigners in their villages without compromise.
According to Tukamuhebwa, security has learnt that many Congolese nationals have access to Ugandan National Identity Cards which is illegal.
