Voice of Muhabura has also learnt that the number of refugees at both the new and old transit camp in Nyakabande Sub County has gradually reduced from 2,032 yesterday to 1,761.

The refugees at the camp are receiving help including Pyscho-social support and also screening for Covid-19.

Kisoro Assistant District Health Officer in-charge of Immunization Annet Dusabe says, some refugees will benefit from the Covid-19 vaccination.

Dusabe says the vaccination of Congolese refugees will be handled as an emergency.

Attempts to verify this activity has not been readily ascertained as various transit camp sources say, only screening for Covid-19 is taking place.

Ministry of Health Spokesperson Emmanuel Ainebyoona also twitted that 1000 refugees had been vaccinated.

“Kisoro District has had an impressive COVID-19 Vaccination coverage.  The uptake stands at over 80 per cent. They have also vaccinated over 1000 Refugees. They are now planning to vaccinate more Refugees following an influx this week”.

Kisoro district and the rest of the Kigezi sub region has been praised for their efforts of sensitizing and enrolling communities for mass vaccination against Covid-19.

Kisoro district currently stands at 80%.

Kisoro Resident District Commissioner Peter Mugisha says, it is routine to relocate refugees especially those who are seeking Asylum.

Mugisha says some refugees have decided to go back to their homes since fighting has ceased for now.

He rebuffed media reports claiming that the Uganda People’s Defense forces (UPDF) at Bunagana had been involved in fighting.

According to Mugisha, Uganda’s territorial boundaries are secure adding that it is not wise to claim that Uganda is in any way involved in what is going on in Eastern DRC.

By yesterday, media reports claim more than 7000 Congolese had fled into Uganda via Bunagana because of fighting between Congolese Government forces and M23.
