KISORO
A 16-year-old Pupil in Primary Seven from Gacaca Village, Rutaka Parish, Kirundo Sub County, Kisoro District has reported the Head Teacher of Gisharu Primary School Alice Bizere to the Office of the Resident District Commissioner (RDC), accusing her of denying her an opportunity to write her Primary Leaving Examinations.
The Just Concluded Countrywide exams have exposed rot in several schools after authorities, including head teachers who have since been arrested on various malpractice charges.
According to the minor, the Head teacher denied her the opportunity to sit her final exams because she was unable to complete her school fees of 80,000 Ugandan shillings.
Kobusinye Mackline, the aunt to the minor and a resident of Gacaca Village, Rutaka Parish, Kirundo Sub County says the mother to the child is gravely ill and can longer meet the financial needs of her daughter while her father abandoned the family a long time ago and cannot be counted upon to support them.
Kobusinye says, the Office of the RDC was their last resort because seven years of studying cannot simply through away because of a head teacher.
“The child was being demanded 70,000 shillings and when we managed to raise 20, 000 Shillings the head teacher still refused. We are now wondering what is going to happen to the future of this girl who has spent seven years studying only to be denied, Kobusinye said.

Alice Bizere, the Schools Head teacher, however had a different tale of how things transpired and says, the allegations against her are false and without any evidence.
Bizere says her school managed to sit 42 candidates successful and the minor should have been the 43rd however she disappeared from school in the first term of Primary Seven.
Bizere says she reported to the relevant authorities and even tried to engage the mother to allow the child to return to school but the mother said, the child was hers and she would do as she sees fit in raising her daughter.
