The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Diana Atwine, is set to commission key health infrastructure projects in Kisoro District on April 7, 2026.
The projects include an isolation unit and a theatre at Kisoro Hospital, as well as a theatre at Busanza Health Centre IV.
Kisoro Hospital Medical Superintendent, Emmanuel Bahane, confirmed that the facilities are complete and ready for commissioning. He said the three projects cost over 5 billion Uganda shillings, covering construction and the installation of modern medical equipment.
According to Dr Bahane, the new facilities are expected to significantly improve service delivery, particularly in surgical care and the management of infectious diseases in the district.
In a related development, Dr Bahane has been promoted from Senior Medical Officer to Principal Medical Officer, formally confirming him as the full Hospital Medical Superintendent.
He received his appointment letter on Friday and expressed gratitude to the Kisoro District Local Government for the trust placed in him. With 13 years of experience in the health sector, Dr Bahane pledged to further improve service delivery and strengthen healthcare services in the district.
Dr Bahane succeeds Micheal Baganizi, who was appointed Programs Manager at the Ministry of Health under the Uganda National Expanded Programme on Immunization. The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Diana Atwine, is set to commission key health infrastructure projects in Kisoro District on April 7, 2026.
