The Church of Uganda held and successfully concluded its 26th Provincial Assembly at the Uganda Christian University and what an event it was.
Mr. John Tereraho, the chairperson of the House of Laity managed to steal the headlines briefly, after being re-elected for the second time, to the joy and detriment of some Christians in the Diocese of Muhabura.
Also worthy to note is, the appointment of a Provincial Chancellor by the names of Naboth Muhairwe, who now replaces Canon Barnabas Tumusingize.
This year’s theme, united for service and growth, basing on an excerpt from the bible (Ephesians 4:11-16) was largely expounded on by the Archbishop of Uganda, the Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, who stressed the value of the church, being more self-sustaining, as an institution.
According to Archbishop Kaziimba, the church has lost substantial acres of land and properties due to sheer greed and personal negligence.
He called for Godly Stewardship of Church resources and assets, especially land.
Most pressing, on the hearts and minds of Christians in the Diocese of Muhabura is the replacement of Bishop Cranmer Mugisha 64, who declared his intentions to retire early.
Muhabura Diocese: Bishop Cranmer’s early retirement leaves bittersweet feeling among Christians.
Since that time, a number of issues have come to light including an invalid constitution for the Diocese, the absence of a Provincial chancellor as well as financial discrepancies in the church among others.
While speaking to Mr. John Tereraho, his confidence peaked as he said, the Constitution of Diocese of Muhabura had been considered during the 26th Provincial Assembly and all it awaits now, is signing and ratification.
Tereraho explained that upon its ratification, it would take a month or two for the Synod to meet and begin the process that is require to select the next Bishop of Muhabura Diocese.
He urged Christians to be patient and avoid using social media to spread divisionism and hatred among Christians because a diocese is an exact reflection of its people and leaders.
“We must learn to respect that leadership is from God and that in God’s time, all things good and bad are revealed however, as Christians, we must show love, compassion and respect for one another”, Tereraho said
Attempts to get confirmation from Church of Uganda Communications Officer Sadiiki Adams on the ratification of the constitution resulted in a referral to the Provincial secretary.
The Muhabura Diocesan Secretary Rev. Steven Ruzaza also declined to comment saying, he is still waiting for an official communication from the Provincial Secretary.
