Police in Kisoro is holding one man who was intercepted at Kanaba Checkpoint with 150 Kgs of undersized Nile Perch which was coming from Masaka.
The identity of the man, whose daily livelihood is from transporting people and goods on a motorcycle (boda boda) was not readily established.
He was briefly detained on Sunday by the Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) Marine Unit at Kanaba Checkpoint.
It is believed that the Fish which was in a sack had been ordered for by an individual from Kisoro and it was going to be sold on the open market.
The fish valued at 2 Million Shillings is set to be destroyed in accordance with the Fisheries and Aquaculture act.
Nile Perch which is locally known as Empuuta was first introduced in Lake Victoria in the 1950s and has shown great dominance as a carnivorous species, feeding on smaller fish species.
