Police in Kisoro yesterday ushered in the new year of 2024 with a celebration held at Tour land in Kisoro Municipality.
The joint celebrations included recognizing Tarehe Sita day which is celebrated on 6th February of every year.
Uganda marked 43 years of Tarehe Sita in remembrance of NRA rebels who held a successful attack on Kabamba Barracks ensuring a strong Victory for the current NRM Government.
The Kisoro District Police Commander Mugerwa Benard thanked the entire Kisoro community and leaders for always working closely with the Police.
Mugerwa, who recently graduated with a Masters in Peace and Conflict Resolution from Makerere University called upon the people of Kisoro to continue embracing community policing.
Kisoro Resident District Commissioner Hajj Badru Ssebyala said the Government has worked towards securing peace and development within the borders of Uganda.
He cited an example of Political insecurity in Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo that has resulted in refugee influx to Uganda and Kisoro in particular.
The Muhabura Diocesan Bishop Rt. Rev Godfrey Mbitse commended NRM government for fostering peace and stability in the Country for more than 30 years.
Bishop Godfrey Mbitse said Security personnel and the community have learnt to co-exist unlike in the past when people used to fear them.
Bishop Mbitse however advised Police officers who have picked up the evil vice of corruption through asking for bribes in order to carry out their duties. He noted that those who are doing it should change their ways in order to guarantee their place in heaven.
Head of Business Community in Kisoro Byensi Expedito and NRM Vice Chairperson for Kisoro who also doubles as the Central division LCIII Chairperson Ramathan Ndikuyeze thanked Kisoro police for organizing such a good function that promotes unity and togetherness.
