The territorial police in Kisoro Municipality have arrested more than 20 suspected criminals following a disruptive security operation conducted on May 18 and 19, 2026, in different parts of Kisoro Municipality and Nyakinama Sub-county.

According to a statement issued by Elly Maate the Kigezi police spokesperson, the operation targeted areas of Kamonyi, Karumena, Kisoro Hill, Nyamirima, and Mikingo villages within Kisoro Municipality, as well as Natete Trading Centre in Nyakinama Sub-county.

Other suspects were reportedly arrested on allegations related to possession of narcotic drugs, specifically opium, obstructing police officers while on duty, and illegal entry and stay in the country.

Police further revealed that case files have already been submitted to the Resident State Attorney for perusal and possible sanctioning.

ASP Elly Maate noted that similar disruptive operations will continue across the entire Kigezi region, explaining that many suspected criminals are believed to have fled from major towns to rural areas following intensified enforcement of trade order regulations.

Security authorities have urged residents to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by providing information that may help in fighting crime and improving security in the region.
