Communities in Nyakabande living near the transit camp have today participated in a peace building dialogue alongside the Congolese refugees at the Nyakabande sub county Council hall.
As part of a deliberate strategy to promote peaceful coexistence between refugees and the host communities in Kisoro, Dan Church Uganda, a non-Governmental Organization organized the one day engagement.
Host communities in Nyakabande and Bunagana have been under immense pressure since March 28th 2022 when Congolese began fleeing political instability in Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.
Since that time, residents have complained of food shortage and increased theft in the communities.
Voice of Muhabura reporter Gerrard Niyirinda is covering the event and will provide a detailed report in our subsequent news bulletin.
