The Salvation Army Uganda joins a long list of humanitarian organizations in the country that have come forward to support the Mudslide victims in Kisoro district.
The Kisoro Resident District Commissioner Hajji Shafiq Sekandi praised the evangelical organization that carried relief items including Posho, beans and cooking Oil meant for the victims of the mudslides that occurred in May this year.
The food distribution is set to take place today in the village of Gihuyaga in Murora Sub County, Kisoro district.
At least eight people lost their lives after the mudslides struck Kisoro district and more than 100 people lost property during the Natural Disasters that occurred in May this year.
Hajji Shafiq Sekandi commended the Government of Uganda through the Office of Prime Minister as well as partners like UNHCR and Red Cross for the support they offered the affected families.
“We are aware that close to 109 individuals who were seriously affected were not able to get any relief support during the earlier distribution of food. Today those people, including the Batwa in the area will be our focus”, Sekandi said
Sekandi also revealed that Ubuntu Bafumbira United Association have also raised support in form of Iron Sheets and clothes for the most vulnerable households that were affected by the mudslides.
Captain Muia of The Salvation Army Uganda said they heard of the plight in Kisoro following the natural disaster in Murora Sub County and decided to come and support the people with food relief.
Muia said the Organization is able to offer more than food relief but can also handle psycho-social support which is something they will consider in the future.
Ubuntu Bafumbira United Association also managed to raise a total of 165 Iron sheets and 10 sacks of clothes to give to the most vulnerable people who were affected by the Mudslides.
Ubuntu-Bafumbira United Association (UBUA) is an Association established to bring together Bafumbira around the world for common causes including Unity, Culture.
Murora Sub County LCV Councilor Irankunda Innocent Kagenza commended the humanitarian partners for offering timely support.
