The suspects involved in the heinous act are said to be a mother and daughter identified as Loy Muhawenimana 41 years (mother) and 18-year-old Allen Nyirabyiringiro (daughter and mother of deceased baby)

Shock gripped some of the residents who had gone to dig in the said garden on to discover limbs of a small child coming up to the surface.

A minor whose identity has been concealed says he was digging the soil, alongside his parents when he struck a patch of the soil, only to see legs of a small baby.

“It did not have an upper body, it was missing”, minor explained.

The boy says he immediately made an alarm, calling for his parents to come and see what had been buried in the soil.

Rurangara village LC1 Chairperson Niyonegamiye John Bosco confirmed the development.

Niyonegamiye says he managed to apprehend the two suspects while they were digging in a garden across the border in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Niyonegamiye says he had to first conduct a search in the entire village to ascertain all the pregnant women and those who had recently given birth.

Upon further interrogation, the mother to the deceased baby, Nyirabyiringiro a Primary six school drop out of Gitovu Primary School confessed that she had delivered a baby a few weeks back.

She further admitted that the man who impregnated her did not want anything to do with the baby and she was unable to follow him up because, she knew little to nothing about him.

Nyirabyiringiro shocked people when she said, this was her first pregnancy which she was able to conceal from her mother, whom she lives with.

“When it was time to give birth, I went outside and pushed the baby and came back into the house to sleep”, Nyirabyiringiro explained.

Mother to the girl, Roy Muhawenimana claims she had no idea her daughter was pregnant and demanded that the daughter be penalized for her actions, if proven guilty.

Muhawenimana says she spends all her time with her daughter and since the time the baby was born, she has not seen any sign of sickness or weakness from her daughter.

Community members in Rurangara cell in Mupaka town council are now demanding for the family of two to be expelled from the village because of the heinous act of murder.

They also want the two suspects to show Police where the other body parts were buried because they might be used in acts of witchcraft.

Mutezi Florida, the owner of the land where the corpse of the baby was discovered said she was distraught and vowed never to dig again on the same land.

She said such an incident is an eye opener to the real evil around her because she has been experiencing low harvest in that particular piece of land.

Police in Kisoro is holding the two suspects and a search for the remaining body parts is still ongoing.
