The Kisoro District Police Commander (DPC) S.P Richard Musisi has said at least 20 minors have been arrested during nightly operations following growing concern of insecurity in the Municipality.
According to Musisi, the minors were discovered in dwelling houses armed with big sticks and other metallic objects used to terrorize innocent Ugandans.
Kisoro communities have raised an alarm following several reported cases of people who had been attacked and maimed while heading home by unknown groups of people.
Musisi says eight suspects are school going children who were taken to courts of law earlier this week where they were given a serious warning.
He noted that others are still being detained and are providing vital information about other gangs in town.
“Some of the suspects we arrested are school going children. They escape from school to go to night clubs and when their money runs out, they decide to attack anyone they meet looking for money, some people have been injured in the
Musisi says others who were discovered and arrested in an abandoned building had just one blanket, presumably stolen, living in squalor like conditions.
He further advised all school going children to focus on their education instead of pursuing night time activities and betraying the trust of their parents and teachers.
Musisi says Police will continue to intensify its operations in town because some areas are still unsafe due to the engulfing darkness in some areas due to lack of enough street lights.
He noted that Police is hunting for self-proclaimed witch doctors who recently raped two women in the name of administering healing herbs through sexual intercourse.
Musisi called on communities to be more mindful of their personal security and avoid enriching people with selfish interests.
