The State Minister for Children Affairs in the Ministry of Gender, Labor and Social development Sarah Mateke Nyirabashitsi has commended the Government for prioritizing women empowerment through Skills development.
While addressing a total of 100 women from Kisoro Municipality, Chahi, Murora, Nyarusiza Kanaba, Nyakinama and Nyarubuye sub counties in Kisoro district, Hon. Sarah Mateke said educating a woman is the first step towards educating an entire population.
She urged the women to start small and avoid low self-esteem but instead believe in the skills they have acquired to better their lives and those of their families.
“Please do not acquire skills from here and you go home and sit on them, count it a blessing that you will be able to start a small business and watch it grow”, Nyirabashitsi said
The training that is taking place at Mubano Hotel in Kisoro Municipality intends to equip women with skills in Bakery, soap making and cosmetology among others.
The Kisoro probation officer Kampire Moira said learning practical skills is the first step towards financial empowerment and will help reduce domestic violence cases in the homes.
The LCV councilor for Nyarusiza sub county John Mfitumukiza said women empowerment will accelerate development of families where children have not been educated or exposed to other opportunities in life.
The training is being conducted by experts from Uganda Industrial Research Institute (UIRI) located in Kampala.
