The territorial police in Kisoro District have arrested four suspected members of a criminal gang that has been terrorizing residents of Kisoro Municipality in recent weeks. Several suspected stolen items were also recovered during the operation.
According to ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, the intelligence-led joint operation was conducted by the police and the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) during the night of October 13th and the early morning of October 14th, 2025, in Rukyerubuga Cell, Southern Division, Kisoro Municipality.
Maate identified the suspects as Nkuruziza Innocent, Niyigaba Enock, Niringiyimana Julius and Ainebyona Marvin
During searches at the suspects’ residences, authorities recovered several suspected stolen properties, including:
- One set of hoofers
- Three mattresses
- Motorcycle registration number 242DA
- Motorcycle registration number 269DH
- Motorcycle registration number 051FX
ASP Maate said that several operations have recently been conducted across Kisoro Municipality, resulting in the arrest and prosecution of a number of suspects involved in simple robberies. In many of these cases, victims were attacked along roads or near their homes, with their property stolen and some sustaining injuries.
Police have urged members of the public who may have been victims of such robberies to visit Kisoro Central Police Station to assist in identifying the recovered items and support ongoing investigations.
“Inquiries are underway,” ASP Maate said.
