Kylian Mbappe’s announcement that he will be staying at Paris Saint-Germain next season doesn’t change anything in Real Madrid’s pursuit of the forward.
The Frenchman has a contract offer on the table from PSG, and is in no rush to renew.
The striker will have one more year on his contract after next summer, making it the perfect time for him to put pressure on PSG to allow him to make his desired move to Real Madrid.
The Frenchman is a known target of Los Blancos, yet no major signings are expected at Madrid this summer, making Mbappe’s statements irrelevant to the club’s current plan.
What is certain is that Real Madrid will not do anything behind PSG’s back, as they want the Qatari owners to be the first to know of any move for their prized asset due to good relations between Florentino Perez and Nasser Al-Khelaifi.
All Real Madrid hope from Mbappe is that he can resist PSG’s attempts to improve its contract, which would leave Los Blancos in a favourable negotiating position next summer.
Mbappe’s statement of intent to continue at PSG next season also reinforces the theory that he too doesn’t want any conflict with his club and that, if he eventually wants to leave, it should be by mutual agreement.
Mbappe wants to win titles and knows that the only challenge that has evaded him at PSG is the Champions League, a competition which is three games away from winning.
