Under the Eden Mission’s Microfinance program, financial support is offered to saving groups at minimal interest rate of 12 per annum.
Various saving groups from different religious denominations across the district have benefitted after completing a 12-month training on accountability and identifying profitable projects to engage in.
A total of 71 Catechists and their spouses, yesterday received a cash Cheque of 106, 500, 000 at Gisoro Catholic Parish in Kisoro Municipality meant to boast their household incomes and improve their Standards of living.
The Catechists who benefitted include those from Gisoro Catholic Parish Church, Sooko Catholic Parish, Gatete Catholic Parish and Mutolere Catholic Parish forming (MUGASOGI). Kinanira Catholic Parish are still undergoing training.
“We found it extremely important to empower the leaders of the church first before moving down to households at the village level. If a church leader is able to support his or her family comfortably, then the message he preaches to the congregation on Saturday or Sunday morning will be better received”, Rwego explained
Eden Mission is an Evangelical, Non-Denominational, Bible-based ministry that operates in the Democratic republic of Congo as well as several parts of Kigezi region, including Kisoro district.
Eden Mission Manager Reverend Amon Byiringiro advised the beneficiaries to respect the rules that apply to money and ensure to invest wisely.
According to Rev. Byiringo, it doesn’t matter whether Men of God are the ones mismanaging the money, the consequences will still apply. He further advised them not to increase the interest rate in hopes to growing the monies too quickly, instead he asked them to show patience and understanding towards one another.
The Dean of Mutolere Deanery Rev.Fr. Erineus Tibamanya commended Eden Mission for considering the Catholic Church to benefit from a development program.
Rev. Fr. Tibamanya cautioned the church leaders to desist from wasting money but should learn to see the loan extended to them as a business model that needs to be taken seriously.
“Often look back and reflect on what was taught to you in order to succeed. These monies will have to be paid back and if we are wise enough, we stand a chance of asking for more money therefore let us be wise and shrewd if we are to fully benefit from this gift”, Tibamanya said
