Over 40 Youth from Kisoro District are set to relocate to the Kigezi Industrial Hub along Kabale- Katuna road in Kabale district for a period of six months where they are primed to gain various skills that will eventually make them job creators and not job seekers.
26 Youth from Kisoro Municiplaity and another 26 representing the rest of Kisoro District will travel to Kabale district on Monday 23rd October, 2023 after being briefed by the Office of the Kisoro Resident District Commissioner.
The Presidential Initiative for Skilling is a program that offers comprehensive training in various skills, such as weaving, tailoring, knitting, shoe-making, and bakery techniques, at completely no cost to the learner.
The program targets youth between the age of 18 and 35 and focuses to benefit all those who have been unable to attend school or those who attended school but had to drop out due to financial challenges.
The group that will be flagged off on Monday is the second batch of youth from Kisoro who are set to benefit from the program. They will be joined by other youth from Kabale, Kanungu, Rubanda and Rukungiri districts.
Sources from the Kisoro Municipal Offices say the first batch that was passed out in September this year.
A total of 24 youth out of 26 managed to graduate. Among the two discharged youth who failed to complete the course, one developed a mental illness and the other was kicked out because of disciplinary issues.
Kisoro Deputy Mayor Augustin Mbonigaba urged the Youth to maintain the highest levels of discipline while on training.
He noted that upon completion of the course, the youth will be given certificates that are equivalent to Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) certificate.
Mbonigaba described the youth as ambassadors of Kisoro who should go and excel in attaining life skills that will empower the for the future.
The Youth vowed to stay clear of Alcohol and other promiscuous behavior while on training because the chance to create a bright future had arrived.
They thanked President Yoweri Museveni and the NRM Government for the support given to them to gain skills.
