Liverpool have no plans to offer Georginio Wijnaldum a new contract amid their interest in Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara.
Wijnaldum is into the final year of his current deal at Anfield and, while there isn’t anything to suggest that the Dutchman’s time at the club is over, it is possible that Liverpool could consider accepting significant bids for him, as reported by The Telegraph.
The 29-year-old will be able to sign a pre-contract agreement with another club from January next year and can leave on a Bosman in July.
Wijnaldum is set to follow the trend set by Daniel Sturridge and Adam Lallana, who went into their last seasons at the club knowing that they would be departing at the end of the campaign.
Since joining Liverpool from Newcastle in 2016, Wijnaldum has made 186 appearances, scoring 19 goals. He has won the Premier League, the Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup and the Club World Cup.
Liverpool have been heavily linked with a move for Thiago, who is valued at £23million by Bayern.
The arrival of Thiago would certainly increase Liverpool’s creativity in midfield as they look to retain the Premier League title and also make an impact in the Champions League.
Liverpool have made one signing so far in this transfer window, bringing in left-back Kostas Tsimikas from Olympiacos.
