The Bukimbiri Member of Parliament, Hon. Eddie Kwizera Wa Gahungu on Thursday 9th May 2024 launched different associations dubbed “vehicles of development” in his constituency.
Kwizera says these are calculated to fasten coordination and mobilisation of masses for government programs and fast-track on progress.
He launched the associations while meeting with different leaders and stakeholders in Bukimbiri County at Nyanamo Town Council Headquarters.
According to him, the associations will foster development in the area because each association will have one voice towards the needs of its members.
Speaking at the Launch, Mr. Kwizera noted that mobilising people under their associations makes it easy for leaders and government to understand challenges affecting the local people and thereafter address them.
He also launched trees and fruits planting exercises in the County as one way of addressing the increasing threat of climate change. He offered to sponsor at least two nursery beds for fruits and trees in each Town Council and Sub County so that each resident can access free seedlings for planting.
Hon. Kwizera assured Bukimbiri leaders of more projects and services, noting that all Kisoro Members of Parliament are a united force and are all aiming at collective development.
Meanwhile, he revealed that he spent over 300 million shillings in opening up the road network in the county and he intends to spend more 200 million shillings in opening up new roads. Voice of Muhabura was unable to independently verify the said figure.
During the same engagement meeting, Mr. Kwizera tipped the leaders to monitor government projects and fight against corruption that has crippled development.
Kwizera noted that most government projects like schools and hospitals tend to work below standards due to corruption tendencies, but regular visits and supervision would frustrate this.
Launched associations
- Bukimbiri Women in Development Association
- Bukimbiri County Teachers’ Association
- Bukimbiri Batwa Integration and Development Foundation
- Bukimbiri Youth Development Federation
- Bukimbiri Tea Farmers Association
- Bukimbiri Coffee Farmers Association
According to Hon Kwizera, meeting local leaders and stakeholders on a quarterly basis will provide a platform for leaders to share and discuss challenges hindering progress in the area.
“This is a platform for us to discuss and share ideas. We will learn from each other and work together as a team. What will then stop our development?” said Kwizera.
The local leaders that include Mayors, LC3 Chairpersons, Sub County Chiefs and others commended Hon Kwizera for opening up roads but regretted their current state.
The leaders say that the rainy season has left most roads in bad shape, calling for quick redress.
