The Bukimbiri County Member of Parliament, Hon. Eddie Kwizera Wa Gahungu has said the poor state of Shaaza Playground in Kisoro Municipality can no longer be tolerated and more concerted efforts need to be directed towards rehabilitating Kisoro District’s main football grounds.

Hon. Kwizera made the remarks yesterday as the chief Guest of a friendly football match between Manchester United Fans from Rubanda who played against Kisoro Arsenal fans.

The game was organized as part of the celebrations to mark 15 years of Voice of Muhabura Radio in Kigezi Region.

According to Hon. Kwizera Wa Gahungu, the football pitch can only be equated to a swamp, especially during the rainy season.

Football players can hardly make any meaningful passes and strategy on the football pitch counts for nothing because of the waterlogged turf.

Kwizera said he is prepared to work with other Members of Parliament to ensure that the football pitch is worked upon and ensuring that all future games at Shaaza will bring dignity to every football lover in the district.

His words of endearment to the youth were accompanied by cash prizes amounting to 3 Million shillings.

The players were given one Million Shillings to share amongst themselves, while the referees also got 500,000 Ugandan shillings.

Hon. Kwizera Wa Gahungu also spent another 1.5 Million shillings as a contribution to Voice of Muhabura as well as tickets for over 200 fans to attend Muhabura Festival.

Isaac Niyonsaba, the Treasurer of the District Football Association said Shaaza Playground lacks a standard pavilion which is important for fans to take shelter as they enjoy the games.

Niyonsaba said the Members of Parliament in Kisoro need to pull their resources collectively and contribute towards a modern pavilion.

The Manager of Shemerewa Non-Alcoholic Kombucha Drink Abraham Tumwikirize said working with Voice of Muhabura in Kisoro has helped promote and market their products to a large extent.

Tumwikirize also offered a cash prize of 100,000 to the winners and 50,000 to the losing side.

Shemerewa also managed to give out several prizes to radio listeners including a brand-new motorcycle during the festival.

Other prizes included Television sets, food stuffs like Matooke and Chicken among others.
