At the foot of Muhabura Mountain, lies a resilient population of 420,000. Hardworking, hopeful, majority are loving.
When we were children, we respected elders. I remember there were the Batwa (pygmies). The way we respected our parents and other relatives, neighbours is the way we respected the Batwa.
There might have been differences depending on the families, but generally, an elder was highly regarded. Today, the levels of betrayal, abuse, hate is shocking.
But we can do better than this. People had values, ethics, morals, decency, discipline and integrity. There are things a teacher, headteacher, Chief, Priest, Reverend would never do. Today, it is seeming normal.
Women in our childhood would never hung in bars and other places that lack privacy and honour. Today, things are different. Is it development, emancipation, economic growth, women empowerment? I doubt. I have reservations. We can go back, we can be better. We can embrace our culture again.
Our society needs a new direction, new regulations. It will take Leadership.
Where are the responsible leaders? Is it the MP who seems to be chasing selfish interests, deals, riches? Do they think of the next generation or more of next elections? Is it LCs? Is it the Sub County, Parish Chiefs? Is it the RDCs? Who is responsible?
Our beautiful home, Kisoro. We have an opportunity to elect leaders that will promote unity, a shared vision, culture, consistent communication, development. We need Unity, Peace and Prosperity.
It will take Leadership. Clean Leadership. We should have interest in the character, quality of our people, leaders and representatives. Without clean leadership, we shall miss many decades without transformation.
The future generation will be affected by our decisions, choice of leaders, from President, MPs, District Chairpersons, Councillors, LCs.
We owe it to this great nation, to our home and heritage, to choose good leaders. It will make a difference.
Every generation has its own Heroes and Heroines. Kisoro is not short of those whether in Academia, Politics. We are now degenerating. It is now a clarion call that we choose Clean Leaders. Are they available? Yes!
If it means money, bribery, commercial politics, ‘eat money of thieves, rich mafias, tired politicians’ and vote fresh minds with new ideas. Why should any body above 65 years remain in politics. Is it a career? Why would anybody be in parliament or any political office for more than 15 years?
If you have not made any significant changes, contributions, then you have failed or exhausted your capacity. There are many mature, educated, decent people who can replace you. There is no monopoly of ideas, knowledge.
Let’s us vote clean leadership devoid of religion, ethnicity, tribalism, divisions, money and intrigue.
My OBs, friends, relatives tell me I am dreaming. To them, it is over. Society is sick and corrupt. I say no.
Humanity revolves. Every generation has its challenges not only in Africa, Uganda or Kisoro.
Who knew Donald Trump would rule the most powerful country in the world. It is the dynamics. When you compare his reasoning, knowledge compared to Obama, Hilary Clinton, Harris…he at times sounds idiotic like some of our leaders including ministers and MPs.
I believe we can do better. You have a role to play.
We can build new bridges, new roads, new mines in Kisoro. We can have cottage industries, we can have cement factory, sugarcane juice factory, Coffee plant, tea processing, and others.
There are 1,000 acres of land in Busanza hills owned by 20 individuals. If there was a partnership, this land can be put to maximum use. Generate revenue to Government, benefit the owners, create 2,000 jobs. But why is it not happening? Bad politics, graft, embezzlement, mafia agents!
What is the success rate of Government programs? Perhaps 30 percent. What happened to Naads/OWC? How many benefitted cows and goats? Coffee, Tea scandals and scums! 39 billion lost to wastage, embezzlement, stealing! Can it be recovered? Will PDM have enormous change? Perhaps. At least the monies reach people with its challenges. It can be improved if we had good MPs who will monitor and oversee Government programs.
Fellow Countrymen, your vote counts. The Bush is now the Ballot box. Think of how we can improve and guard our votes.
Don’t harass other Parties. It is against Democracy.
Think of Kisoro with 2 International borders. Yet 60 percent of people live in abject Poverty? Six MPs, yet to get a replacement of a Minister? Hope it will be one who is going to serve humanity, Kisoro people and Uganda.
In 2026, don’t waste your vote on a person talking religion, ethnicity, tribalism, alcohol. Drink, eat the money but be wise? Look back and say, ‘what have our leaders done?’
How are the schools, Hospitals, infrastructure, civil servants salaries? What is the state of your roads.
Parliament has many people, most of not useful? Whom do you vote? Why do you vote? Do you care about development, transformation and service delivery?
Uganda shall rise and shine. It will depend on Clean Leadership.
You cannot give what you don’t have.
“Be the Change.”
