The Kisoro Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Hajj Badru Sebyaala has cautioned schools against early closure for first term holidays.
Sebyaala, who appeared on the Government Hour talk show on Voice of Muhabura Tuesday evening, warned that the official closure for holidays is May 3rd, and any school that goes against that will face consequences.
He reechoed that he had already received reports of some private schools sending learners home as a way of cutting expenditure, which he termed as another form of corruption.
According to Sebyaala, school directors are looking for means of cheating parents by imposing the unnecessary holiday studies, which is also illegal.
He said any school that will be found carrying out holiday teaching will be indefinitely closed.
Emmanuel Mbonyebyombi, the Kisoro District Inspector of Schools, who was also in the show, warned teachers against absenteeism and wanting to conclude the syllabus in holidays.
He regretted that parents abscond from school meetings, where affairs of their children are discussed.
Nzitus Niringiye, also a Schools Inspector, urged parents to get involved in their children’s education for better results.
He noted that the Primary Schools athletics competitions had been successfully completed and a team will represent Kisoro district at National level competitions in Kitgum district between May 12-22.
The Ministry of Education schools calendar indicates that learners will break off for holidays on May 3, 2024, and return for second term on May 27, 2024.
However, most schools in Kisoro started sebding learners home since last Friday.
We are yet to see whether the RDC’s threat will leave a blueprint this academic year.
