Pedestrians along Kisoro- Mutolere road can now breathe a sigh of relief following a generous and timely contribution by UMEME to paint a Zebra Crossing near Read Primary School.
UMEME is Uganda’s main electricity distribution company.
Area Manager Dickson Aruho said the Organization recognizes the importance of promoting Safety especially among the communities it serves.
Aruho explained that a Zebra Crossing along Kisoro- Mutolere road was the most suitable idea following the two most recent road accidents that resulted in the loss of two lives.
Motor Vehicle driver of Toyota Land Cruiser green in color, Registration Number UAJ 827Q being driven by one Kwizera Aggrey of Nyakinama Sub County, Kisoro district knocked down one motorcycle causing the death of two people at the Scene of the accident.
Aruho said a total of 1 million Ugandan shillings has been spent on the Zebra Crossing.
Kisoro Traffic O.C Michael Kushaba called on all road users to be respectful of the Zebra Crossing especially when Pedestrians are attempting to cross the road.
He urged people to show restraint while waiting at the Zebra Crossing and desist from hooting or shouting at people to cross quickly.
The Head teacher of Read Primary School Muhwezi Kenneth expressed Joy ahead of the re-opening of the second term.
Muhwezi said the pupils will be glad to know that they can cross the road without any fear of being knocked down.
He urged other community members to make good use of the Zebra Crossing if they wish to see the current trend of road accidents going down.
LCIII Chairperson Northern Division, Kisoro municipality Michael Bazamanza called on the Government through Uganda National Roads Authority to consider re-designing the road and make it wider because it is very busy and extremely narrow.
