As residents of Kisoro district slowly come to terms with the tragic death of an Indian investor who was gunned down yesterday by a Police Officer, the Kisoro District Police Commander Richard Musisi says, the attacker acted on his own Volition.
The deceased, Patel Kuntaj 24, a salesman at TULJE enterprise, along Rwalinda Rukimbira Street (formerly Main Street) was shot twice by a Police Officer attached to the Field Force Unit (FFU) attached to the Nyakabande Refuge Transit Camp.
The Killer cop, identified as Gumizamo Elioda 21, has since been arrested and is being charged with Murder and aggravated Robbery.
The Indian community in Kisoro has since closed all their places of work and accompanied the family of the deceased.
They intend to travel back to India for burial.
Close sources within TULJE enterprises say, the deceased had reported a case to Police previously claiming some individuals, including the killer cop had been following him and threatening him.
This was confirmed by Kisoro DPC Richard Musisi
Kisoro DPC Richard Musisi says it is so disappointing that a Police officer could be hired to commit such a heinous act.
Musisi says, the officer did not work alone, and Police is determined to find the others connected to the death of the Kisoro investor.
Preliminary Investigations indicate that the young officer had been promised 20 million Ugandan shillings.
It is believed that the hit was intended for the owner of TULJE enterprise, Rajendra Patel, a prominent businessman dealing in Hardware and Grocery products since 1996.
The latest incident mounts pressure on Security in Kisoro district as public outcry on growing insecurity continues to grow.
Residents continue to be targeted by goons who are stealing mobile phones, handbags and money.
Several people have been maimed by these thugs in an attempt to hold on tight to their hand earned property.
The Office of Kisoro Resident District Commissioner is yet to release a detailed plan of action to the public on how security can be improved in these perilous times.
