Kisoro Municipal Councilor Anne Niwomugisha detained by Police
Police in Kisoro are holding the Kisoro Municipal councilor representing Nyamagana ward in Central division, Kisoro Municipality Anne Niwomugisha at Kisoro Central Police station.
By Press time, other Municipal Councilors and Kisoro district LCV chairperson Abel Bizimana had stormed the Police demanding for the release of their Colleague.
According to his husband who preferred anonymity, Police stormed their home today morning demanding to see Councilor Anne. She was requested to present herself to Kisoro Central Police station.
0n arrival, she was immediately detained.
According to the OC.C.I.D Kisoro Elias Bairuka, six others have been arrested and are being detained on charges of theft and malicious damage.
The Kisoro Municipal Speaker Nkurunziza Geofrey said that they are ready to go to jail provided they are fighting for the public interest.
The Kisoro district Chairperson Abel Bizimana who headed the team of leaders supported the acts that were done by Municipal Councilors in eliminating theft of government property. He says that instead of arresting councilors, it would be the Town clerk answering how she unlawfully gave out government land for private use.
While speaking to the Voice of Muhabura, Kisoro Municipal Mayor Nydana Richard declined to comment on the matter.
The councilors made a request to police to collectively gather evidence and collect statements from all of them rather than individual invitation which is threatening and time wasting.
By the time of filing this story Niwomugisha Anne was still in Police cells.
