It is not every day that you come across a story as disheartening as the one that unfolded in the village of Murambi in Rwaramba Parish, Nyakinama Sub County, Kisoro District.
Agnes Nyiramugisha (early 30s) is a mother of four children. She is a peasant and literally lives by hand to mouth.
Nyiramugisha has seen firsthand the effects of domestic violence and how devastating alcohol, and drugs can be to a family.
On the night of March 12th, 2023, her husband, Nzamuye Amos aged 45 returned home completely inebriated from alcohol and marijuana.
Nyiramugisha says, her husband always gets enraged after drinking too much. On that dreadful night, Nzamuye chased his wife with a panga, just like he has done so many times in the past.
“He often wears himself out and loses interest in the chase which is why I have never reported him however something was different about him on this night”, Nyiramugisha explained.
Nyiramugisha says that when she was faraway enough from her ‘mad’ husband, she observed something so strange and frightening.
Her husband had dropped the panga and jumped on to the goat.
“I could not believe what I was seeing with my own eyes. My husband was performing a sexual act on the goat, I nearly fainted as I drew closer to him”, Nyiramugisha said.
Nyiramugisha stood frozen in fear and shock as her husband pushed off the goat. Possessed with high libido, she watched her husband run after his own 11-year-old daughter.
“I could hear from outside what was going on inside the bedroom, my precious children was being hurt by a man who should have been the one to protect her”, Nyiramugisha said.
Amos Nzamuye was eventually arrested and remanded to Kisoro Government Prison on two counts of defilement and bestiality.
He is expected to return to the Kisoro Magistrates Court on the 27th of February 2024 for further mentioning of his case.
Nzamuye’s family remains devastated by the actions of a husband and a father.
The family that lives in abject poverty and pain say it is good that he has been locked up because he never once respected his wife and always used to beat and rape her.
Nyiramugisha called on well-wishers to help her educate and take care of her four children because life has always been unbearable for her but if she can introduce her innocent children to a better life, she will have done well as a mother.
