The Kisoro district Chief Administrative officer (CAO), Musa Onzu Ismail
has defended the dependency on sewage water by the Batwa living in
Mikingo Village on lack of orientations from district leaders.
The comments comes days after the Batwa residing from Mikingo village
southern division in Kisoro Municipality behind district headquarters
allegedly vandalized septic tanks behind the district’s health department
to fetch sewage for use.
Speaking to voice of Muhabura, CAO Onzu Ismail said that Batwa are
part of Kisoro’s population and people should learn to live with them
because they were evicted from their traditional habitants where the
mode of life is totally different.
Mr. Musa Onzu Ismail says after interacting with the Batwa he found
out that they did not know the source of the water because they found
when the septic tanks were uncovered which forced them to use it for
bathing and washing.
Onzu noted that the Kisoro district leaders have a task to orient them on
what’s wrong and what’s right. He however doubts that the actions to
vandalize the district septic tanks were done by Batwa.
He noted that investigations into the matter have commenced to find
out people behind what he calls theft of septic covers for unknown
reasons.
Meanwhile, Onzu stated that the district is looking forward to relocate
the Mikingo Batwa Community to another yet to be found vast land to
allow them carry out subsistence farming.
