One person has been confirmed dead and three others injured in an accident that involved three vehicles in Kanaba Sub County.
Kigezi regional Police Spokesman, Elly Maate, told Voice of Muhabura that the accident occurred this Friday at 03:20pm.
The vehicles involved include a FUSO fighter, white in color, Registration Plate UBL 124F, a red Actros Mercedez Benz Reg No. UBG 165K and a white in color Hawo Sinotruck with Registration number UBK970D/UBN491E.
According to Maate, the incident occurred at Kagano village, Muhindura Parish, Kanaba Sub County Kisoro District, along Kisoro – Kabale road.
The deceased has been identified as Tumuhise Abudallatif, 38 years, a turn man in the UBL124F FUSO fighter.
The injured are Kitaali Abudalla, aged 53, a resident of Jinja, who was driving motor vehicle Reg No. UBG 165K, Lwanga Robert aged 48, who was driving the Sinotruck UBK970D/UBN491E, and the unknown driver of UBL124F who was still at large by publication time.
It is alleged that motor vehicle registration number UBL124F, which was carrying soda ash, lost control while sloping down the Kanaba corners, heading to Kisoro.
According to Maate, the vehicle developed a mechanical problem and the propeller Shafter detached from the vehicle.
Maate says this caused the vehicle’s breaking system to fail, hence the driver losing control and knocking motor vehicle registration number UBG165K from behind and continued and collided with the oncoming UBK970D/UBN491E head on.
The turn man in the Fuso fighter died instantly.
The accident scene was visited by ASP Kushaba Michael and his team of traffic officers from Kisoro CPS.
The body of the deceased turn man was taken to Kisoro hospital for postmortem.
Maate adds that statements have been recorded from the two drivers, while the Motor vehicles were towed to Kisoro CPS, pending inspection and inquiries.
