The Kisoro United Boda Boda Association (KUBO) is set to elect new leaders, tomorrow 10th of August 2022.
The budding boda boda industry has decided Robert Kalangala as the chairman after he was unopposed during the nomination process.
Bright Nsenga, the treasurer of KUBO will also enjoy the same privilege after being praised for growing the association’s finances.
All other positions including, publicity, Secretary General, welfare and vice chairman are up for grabs.
Kalangala Robert said the industry has grown leaps and bounds and showed his appreciation to the NRM Government for allowing youth to earn a living through boda boda.
He however noted that in the last year alone, over 10 motorcycles worth 55 million shillings were stolen.
Several members of the association have been killed by criminals attempting to steal their motorcycles while others have been killed while committing criminal activity.
Earlier in the year, Kisoro Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Hajji Shafiq Sekandi was forced to institute a curfew for boda boda operators not to exceed 9pm working for their own personal safety.
The curfew has since been lifted following improved security in the Municipality.
Kalangala says, at least 10 members have been expelled from KUBO.
He advised the incoming leadership to be prepared to fight criminality in the boda boda industry that has tarnished the image of boda boda in Kisoro district.
Kalangala further called for peace and calm in the Bukimbiri County by-elections on Thursday this week where he asked all boda boda riders not to get involved in any violent behavior.
Boda boda users, especially Kisoro Municipality may not be able to access boda bodas for several hours in the morning due to the on-going election
