NCDF is one of the biggest organizations in Kisoro that supports communities bordering Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, home to the endangered Mountain Gorillas.
It also manages high end hotel for tourists called Clouds and offers scholarships to students in the community as a way of preventing human wildlife conflict in the area.
During the voting Process, only 21 NCDF board members were allowed to vote in the highly heated election, as was guided by Ntale Mustapher, the Director of Registration at URSB.
URSB had also been ordered by the court of appeal to conduct the election.
A section of board members including Kanyamunyu Fidelis criticized URSB for changing the election venue from Nkuringo town council to Kisoro Municipality on short notice.
The members accused URSB of attempting to connive with wrong elements to hijack the outcomes of the election however after clear explanation, that the venue was changed for security reasons, the members agreed to proceed.
Members also demanded that some articles in the NCDF constitution like article 2, 44, 88 and 58 be amended in presence of URSB officials. A few were amended while others were postponed until further notice due to limited time.
The Kisoro Resident district commissioner (RDC), Hajji Badru Ssebyala advised NCDF leadership to avoid make mistakes that negatively affect Ugandans and tarnish the image of the President. He called on the new leaders to put their selfish interests aside and focus on development.
